The bottom of the earth
With memories of sunsets and castles fresh in my mind I couldn’t imagine anything being quite so scenic, Waipu was having no part of it and decided to be sunny and wonderful despite the claims that it is in fact ‘winter’ here.
Having no idea what kind of madness I had gotten myself into by agreeing to edit a trilogy I immediately spent 18 hours in bed followed by a day at the beach before actually looking at the material I had to work with.
At some point after I had been standing in the sun taking photos for a prolonged period someone happened to mention that the ozone layer is about 10% thinner over New Zealand than in the northern hemisphere, primarily due to pollution FROM the northern hemisphere… Thanks guys…
Somehow I avoided becoming radioactive and having my skin fall off like a snake molting, but still that is a fairly important thing to warn people about as one can get a wicked sunburn here, in mid winter. I am so glad not to be facing -40C and the constant threat of maple scented bear attacks.
