Victory day for Bangladesh

(Scroll down for English)

In 1971 on Dec 16th the war between east Pakistan and West Pakistan ended with the creation of Bangla Desh (The Nation of the Bangla.) This is celebrated every year in Bangladesh.

For example in 2013 27,117 volunteers formed the largest flag in the world by holding up coloured squares.

I went to the University of Dhaka and took a bunch of photos.

Here are the ones that aren’t too blurry to use.

DSCN0397

Quite a few people asked me to take their picture with no intention of ever seeing it again… If you recognize anyone let them know where to find me

DSCN0472

Istiak’s friends Shafiun, Refat, and Faria

DSCN0427

I swear they told me their names before I took this photo but all I can remember is Ab Fooobie? which makes no sense

DSCN0468

At some point Refat started wearing a blanket of some sort

DSCN0376

This little kid dragged his dad over to take his picture with me. Apparently I am a celebrity in Bangladesh now

DSCN0391

This guy was taking my picture so it only seemed fair that I respond in kind

DSCN0348

Another group of girls who wanted their picture taken but didn’t want a copy of it

DSCN0366

He sat above the crowd human watching for over an hour. I assume he thought we had bird food or something

DSCN0414

Another random person who wanted a photo taken with me, so I took her photo while her friend set up his camera

DSCN0318

Just a crowd shot with the university of Dhaka lit by the setting sun in the background

DSCN0324

I just love that guys hat

DSCN0332

I have no idea what her phone was doing but she doesn’t appear to approve of it

DSCN0333

The crowd parted for a moment, I didn’t see her until I was going through my photos later

DSCN0343

Again with the asking for pictures they will never see

DSCN0207

The Bangladeshi flag formed from writing done by passers by, myself included

DSCN0208

Proof I scrawled illegible gibberish on the flag

DSCN0240

Strangely these people actually contacted me later and actually wanted a copy of their photo, so it IS possible

DSCN0288

Elephants are awesome, they don’t belong in cities, but they are awesome
